Pocono Mountains' Participates in Learn to Ski Month this January

Feb 15, 2018

Pocono Mountains, Pa. (PRWEB) December 20, 2012

January is Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month. Several ski resorts in the Pocono Mountains will join in the nationwide effort to get people outside and to enjoy snow sports this season.

“The Pocono Mountains has seven major ski resorts with over 1,000 instructors with a range of expertise for all ages and abilities,” explains David West, Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau vice president of sales and marketing. “That is an excellent student to teacher ratio. Each ski area has family-friendly facilities and trails ranging from beginner to expert ensuring everyone in the family a chance to learn and build confidence as a skier and snowboarder.”

The Pocono Mountains boasts seven ski areas, with more than 185 trails, including terrain parks. The trail breakdown is 35% Beginner/Novice, 32% Intermediate and 33% Expert, making the region ideal for every skill level.

Pocono Mountains ski areas have been perfecting snow-making since its beginning 60 years ago allowing skiers and riders to learn and take pleasure in snow sports even without the cooperation of Mother Nature. Whether the snow is natural or man-made, the conditions are always right for learning.

Learn to Ski Month deals and packages will be offered throughout the region through January and February. Packages vary by resort, but most include lessons, lift tickets and rentals. The effort is to encourage people new to snow sports to take a lesson and for those with experience to share the adventure with family and friends. A list of participating resorts and special packages can be found at poconoski.com.

Families interested in other winter activities in addition to skiing and snowboarding will find plenty to do in the Pocono Mountains. The only natural USA Luge track is at
Blue Mountain, and for $10 riders can plunge down a 2,000-foot-long course used for training and recruiting for the USA Luge team. After a few lessons and some practice runs lugers could be ready for the big time, as official USA Ludge coaches are on hand scouting for the next great Olympic luger. Other activities available in the Pocono Mountains include snow shoeing, dog sledding and ice fishing. The region is also home to snowmobiling, tobogganing, horseback riding and two indoor water parks.

The Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau encourages fans to share their favorite winter recreation activities in the Pocono Mountains by posting pictures and videos to the
Pocono Tourism Facebook page.
